Is the 2027 intake called autumn, winter or Semester 1?
For a February or March 2027 start, use “Semester 1 2027” or “February/March 2027 intake” as your general search term. The exact name depends on the university:
- Semester 1: used by universities such as UQ and RMIT.
- Autumn session: UTS's main-calendar session begins 15 February 2027.
- Term 1: UNSW's three-term calendar begins its first term in February. Its new calendar starts in 2028, so use the calendar for your entry year.
“Winter semester” is not a useful common name for this early-year intake. For a July start, search for “Semester 2” or “mid-year intake”; UTS calls its July session Spring. Orientation may happen before teaching begins, so a February intake label does not mean every course starts classes in February.
PTE accepted universities in Australia: six options for 2027
This is a researched shortlist of master's by coursework examples, not a ranking or a complete list of Australian universities. Scores and intake information were checked on 23 October 2026. Each row applies to the named course or stated requirement, not every master's at that university.
| University and example course | PTE overall | Skill minimums | Early-2027 intake to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monash University Master of Information Technology | 58 | 50 in each skill | Semester 1 February intake |
| University of Melbourne Master of Information Technology | 64 | 60 in each skill | Start-year intake March course start |
| University of Queensland Master of Business | 64 | 60 in each skill | Semester 1 22 February 2027 |
| University of Technology Sydney Master of Information Technology | 58 | Writing 50 | Autumn 2027 Main session: 15 February |
| RMIT University Master of Information Technology | 58 | 50 in each skill | Semester 1 Classes: 1 March 2027 |
| UNSW Sydney Master of Commerce | 65 | 54 in each subtest | Term 1 February intake |
The course and English-policy sources for every row are linked below. Intake listings are not live seat counts. Confirm the 2027 international-student option, campus and application status before paying an application fee. Where a course publishes an intake month rather than an exact 2027 teaching date, the table retains that distinction.
1. Monash University: Master of Information Technology
The Master of Information Technology at Clayton lists a first-semester February intake and directs applicants to Monash's English requirements. Its published minimum is PTE Academic 58 overall, with no communicative skill below 50. Courses with higher requirements must be checked separately.
The course has different entry lengths depending on previous study. Check the international applicant view and the prerequisites for the entry point you want. A shorter study duration should not be assumed simply because you already hold a bachelor's degree.
2. University of Melbourne: Master of Information Technology
Melbourne's course entry page specifies PTE Academic 64 overall and 60 in Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening. The course overview lists March and July intakes at Parkville.
Melbourne also requires approved tests to be taken at a test centre, in one sitting, within 24 months of the planned start. Its English policy includes restrictions on the country where a test is taken. Check these details as well as the number on your score report.
For the start-year 2027 application, use the course's How to apply page with “International students” selected. Domestic deadlines and funding information should not be treated as your international application instructions.
3. University of Queensland: Master of Business
UQ's 2027 Master of Business page lists Semester 1 starting 22 February 2027 at St Lucia. The course requires PTE Academic 64 overall and 60 in every sub-band.
The published Semester 1 closing rule is 30 November of the previous year, which makes 30 November 2026 the date for this 2027 intake. Check the current page before submitting. UQ offers different course lengths based on prior qualifications, so select the option that matches your academic background.
4. University of Technology Sydney: Master of Information Technology
The UTS Master of Information Technology explicitly lists Autumn Session 2027. Its English requirement is PTE 58 overall with Writing 50. Do not turn that Writing requirement into an invented “50 in every skill” rule.
The 2027 main calendar starts Autumn teaching on 15 February, with orientation earlier in February. Confirm the schedule supplied with your course offer. Special health and teaching courses can have different English rules and calendars.
5. RMIT University: Master of Information Technology
The RMIT Master of Information Technology publishes PTE Academic 58 overall with no communication band below 50. The course page excludes at-home or online English testing.
Its 2027 application page lists Semester 1 classes from 1 March 2027 and orientation from 22 to 26 February. This is a useful example of why the “February intake” label and the first teaching day can differ.
Check the international application section, including any interview or credit-assessment conditions. The published latest application date is not a sensible travel-planning target if you still need an offer, acceptance and a visa.
6. UNSW Sydney: Master of Commerce
UNSW's Master of Commerce lists Term 1, 2 and 3 entry and states that applications to 2027 intakes are open at the time of this check. Its Business postgraduate coursework PTE requirement is 65 overall, with at least 54 in each subtest.
Use Term 1 when searching for the early-year intake. The English table distinguishes undergraduate study, postgraduate coursework and postgraduate research; read the coursework column for this degree. Confirm your course choice and availability in the international applicant view.
When should you apply for the February/March 2027 intake?
Start with your course's international deadline, then work backwards from it. There is no single application deadline for all Australian master's courses.
- UQ Master of Business: the course's previous-year rule gives 30 November 2026 for Semester 1 2027.
- UTS: its standard international Autumn deadlines are 30 November for applicants outside Australia and 15 January for applicants in Australia. Applied to Autumn 2027, these are 30 November 2026 and 15 January 2027. These are recurring dates applied to the intake year; course exceptions can override them.
- RMIT: its application guidance advises applicants needing a visa to apply and accept at least four to eight weeks before commencement. That is planning advice, not a guaranteed visa processing time.
For the other entries, follow the linked course application instructions rather than borrowing a deadline from a different university. Scholarship deadlines, offer-acceptance deadlines and enrolment dates may all differ from the application deadline.
How to check whether your PTE score fits a course
Write down five numbers: overall, Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing. Compare each required number with the exact course rule. An overall score does not compensate for a skill below its minimum.
Example: suppose your report shows 64 overall, Listening 62, Reading 61, Speaking 63 and Writing 58. That misses the 60-in-each-skill requirement shown for Melbourne IT and UQ Business. It meets the numerical English thresholds shown here for Monash IT, RMIT IT and UTS IT, but it does not establish academic eligibility, test validity or an available place. It also falls below UNSW Commerce's overall 65.
Use the example to identify the next decision: improve Writing, select a course with a different published requirement, or ask admissions about an approved English pathway. Avoid choosing a degree solely because its minimum English score is lower.
Your course shortlist and application checklist
- Choose the subject and exact award. This article covers coursework master's examples. Research degrees have separate application and supervision processes.
- Select the correct applicant category. International and domestic pages can display different fees, deadlines and instructions.
- Confirm the campus and 2027 intake. Check that your chosen specialisation and study mode are available in that intake.
- Check academic entry. Compare your degree, grades, prerequisites and any required experience with the course criteria.
- Record the English conditions. Save the test name, overall and skill scores, evidence-age rule and result-submission instructions.
- Plan the complete cost. Compare international tuition, course duration and living costs. Our PTE exam fee guide covers the separate cost of taking the English test.
- Track deadlines separately. Record application, scholarship, acceptance and orientation dates rather than using one date for everything.
Admission and Student visa requirements are separate checks. Read our Australia PTE score requirements guide for that distinction and links to official rules. A university offer alone does not confirm visa eligibility.
Once you have a course target, use the four-week PTE study plan and free task practice to work on the skills below that target. Review several fresh attempts rather than relying on one practice score.
